Welcome to my site and the site of BY THE WAY. BY THE WAY is a free daily devotion that is sent via e-mail to subscribers. BY THE WAY is sent out Mondays to Fridays. Feel free to subscribe (on the home page) and to forward it to friends. You can unsubscribe at any stage. May you find it a daily blessing. You are always welcome to reply with your comments. God bless!
Our accent is on a relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, and how to live a Christian life. BY THE WAY is non-denominational and theologically middle-of-the-road. Our concern is not with Christian doctrine, but with Christian practice. Our devotions start with a Bible verse, and a meditation on that of one paragraph. It is concluded with a one-line prayer and a "to do"-part.
BY THE WAY means three things:
1. The "way" as life's journey and my intention to add a bit of spiritual encouragement to your daily. So, please stop "by the wayside" for a minute a day and be blessed out of God's Word;
2. The "Way"as the gospel or Christian message. Perhaps you know, but in the Bible the Christian movement was called The Way. BY THE WAY will help you, in daily snippets of truth and hope, to stick to the WAY Jesus taught us (as best I can);
3. "By the way" is also an interjection, signifying that I quickly want to throw in a remark or question - it refers to what can happen in informal conversation, and so I hope that I can interject in you busy day, a little comment or thought, just by the way.... BY THE WAY is an offspring of a similar Afrikaans ministry, called PADLANGS. I started PADLANGS in 2000, and am now sending out daily devotions via e-mail to thousands of people all over the globe. You will find that the rest of this site is devoted to PADLANGS and other offerings (I am with it full time), unfortunately all in Afrikaans! I started with an English version on the request of many people and hopefully we will soon have more English on the site (you being of the majority pursuasion and all that) and, who knows, an English site altogether. In the meanwhile: bear with me... God bless!
Some more info (for those who feel like reading on...):
1. I am Jimi le Roux, a South African minister of many years. I am ordained in the Christian Reformed Church of South Africa and have work for 20 years in congregational ministry, now full time in "internet ministry"! I am one of those post-modern ministers that find themselves in the middle of the Christian spiritualities: reformed in training, charismatic in my (personal) experience and worship, and growing with some of the contemplative practises that is just so tremendously enriching.
2. My wife Maryke helps with the administration of PADLANGS/BY THE WAY
3. PADLANGS is an Afrikaans word literally meaning “along-the-way” or “by-the-road” or perhaps “following-the-road”. Figuratively it came to mean “to the point” to describe that frank, direct way of communicating when something needs to be said and there is no time for or luxury of avoiding obvious truths. PADLANGS therefore means to refer to short and pointed messages on our life’s journey. BY THE WAY was chosen as name because of it's similarity in ring and meaning (more or less)!
4. Afrikaans is one of the eleven languages of South Africa and spoken by the descendants of the Dutch, French, German and English immigrants of the 17th and 18th century, now known as Afrikaners. It has developed from 17th century Dutch and has incorporated of the vocabulary and idiom of Malay, Portuguese and the surrounding black languages. It can easily be understood by Dutch and Flemish people.
5. I also offer informal spiritual courses on Spiritual Formation, Spritual Disciplines, etc. It is sent to those partnering with the ministry by way of regular donation. I also offer spiritual guidance, pastoral care, prayer, etc. as well as life coaching (for which I am fully qualified and registered) via internet or personally.
Feel free to write to me!
