0713 Judges 6:12 God believes in you

The LORD is with you, mighty man of valour!

THINK

Gideon is threshing out wheat in a wine press, because he’s afraid that the Midianites would come and confiscate his harvest.  During that time the Midianites trekked through Israel with their herds and tents and totally dominated the locals.  One day a peculiar Stranger was sitting under the big tree on Gideon’s family’s land and says to him the above words.  Gideon answers that he is not so sure that God is with them, with the situation and all and that he’s also no “man of valour”.  In fact, says Gideon, he is the most insignificant person in his family and his family is the most insignificant one in their tribe.  The Stranger is not put off by Gideon’s perception at all and repeats that he should go now “in this might of yours”, take leadership of all the tribes and drive the Midianites from the land.  Clearly friend, Gideon’s concept of himself and God’s concept of him are NOT the same! And it’s clearly God’s concept that they’re going with, not so?  He clearly believes much more in Gideon’s potential that does Gideon himself!  Friend, please forget for a while your self-concept – it is skewed.  God knows you far better than you can know yourself.  God knows that you can actually be a courageous hero, so stop with the fearfulness and the hiding away!  Up, man of valour; get going, strong woman!

Lord, thank you for seeing the true me. Amen.

As I have a God-image that I should know about, God has a Me-image that I should also know about.  God’s eternal perspective sees us in all our potential, not just in what is manifesting at the moment.  In your quiet time, ask God to show you what you can be – you will be surprised!  Then act more out of your faith, and less out of your fear.
