But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.

THINK

Moses has reached the end of his life and of the journey. God said he should go up Mount Nebo, from where one can see the whole of the Promised Land. With that view in his eyes he will die. Before that however, Moses teaches the whole of Israel for the last time.  He urges them to keep to God’s law.  He says it’s not difficult or unreasonable – God’s word is not far or foreign to them, but near, right there in their words, in their thoughts, in their hearts!  It means they should think it, speak it, do it!  Friend, if God’s word was close to them, how much more for us?  God has given his Spirit in us to change us into WANTING to do his will!  So everything is in place, we just need to do it!  We stand before a choice, Moses says.  Yes, God’s will is in a sense YOUR choice, YOUR obedience, YOUR behaviour, YOUR life!  Just do it!  There are no excuses.

PRAY

I choose to be obedient Lord!  Help me to be… Amen.

DO

We should learn how to share with God in our hearts.  The easier part is to get away with his Word, quieten your thoughts and focus to the inside.  There, in the sanctuary of the Holy Spirit you can speak with him and listen to his voice.  The more difficult part is to discern his voice from among your own voice that you can also hear… not so?  Yet this lifelong learning curve is worth every effort!
